The new vehicle plant for the production of the Audi Q5 is designed for an annual production of 150.000 units for the world market. An area in the immediate vicinity of the city of San José Chiapa in the state of Puebla was chosen as the site.
The construction period began in May 2013 with the buildings for the paint shop and media center. In addition to the areas for logistics supply and disposal such as inbound and outbound, the plant includes the production lines for body shop, paint shop, press shop and assembly. The site also includes a building for the spine and the media center. To the south of the plant, a supplier park and a container parking area have been created. Furthermore, various outbuildings (filling station, guards, fire station, waste disposal centre, etc.) were required for operations.
