Coherent, founded in 1966 in the USA, is one of the world's leading photonics manufacturers with headquarters in Silicon Valley, California.
In addition to the company headquarters in Lübeck, there are eight other Coherent locations in Germany as well as further branches abroad.

Strategic considerations and the continuous growth of Coherent Germany, particularly at its location at Seelandstrasse 9 in the Herrenwyk district of Lübeck, make it necessary to expand both production and development capacity and office space.
It was not possible to expand the space at the current location, and the conditions for efficient production in the future were no longer given there.
It was therefore decided by Coherent to cover the space requirements with a new building in the Lübeck-Genin district. This district is about 12 km away, on the opposite southern side of the Hanseatic City of Lübeck.
