Fraunhofer Institute

The Fraunhofer Application Center for Large Structures in Production Technology AGP was founded in 2000 as a branch of the Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Engineering and Automation IPA and has developed well from the outset. The planned extension is therefore necessary in order to create additional office and laboratory space for the growth in size planned from 2022. An independent building with a connection to the existing building is planned as an extension and the design envisages a building with a neutral, quiet façade design in monolithic form. The hall façade made of white aluminium sandwich elements grows like a crystal from the surrounding exposed concrete base. The pedestal drops off clearly from the corner of Albert-Einstein-Strasse towards the north and is intended to lead the staff and visitors of the institute to the existing main entrance.

The internal development is carried out via a straight communication axis, which extends from the existing building through the completely new building. The layout of the hall allows direct exchange between the office and laboratory rooms and the welding technology hall and is extended to include the function of the main traffic axis.
